Alberta Teachers' Association Labour Action Update #5 to Families

October 24, 2025

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The current province-wide strike and lockout are set to enter a fourth week. As you may have heard in the recent news, the Government of Alberta will table legislation to return teachers to the classrooms. At this time, I have not received any notice from either the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) or Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), and do not know an official return date for teachers and students. However, as soon as I am provided with an update I will share the information with you by letter, and the Peace Wapiti Public School Division’s (PWPSD) ATA Labour Action webpage will be updated.

The Government of Alberta has provided learning materials to support students and families during labour action, and a link to these resources can be found on the PWPSD ATA Labour Action webpage or at https://curriculum.learnalberta.ca/pt/en/home.

I’d like to once again remind you that, while our schools remain closed, you may notice PWPSD school buses on the road. Once a week, our bus drivers will run their bus to ensure they are ready to return to school when the strike ends.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

Contest Opportunities for Students:

The PWPSD 2025 Christmas Card Art Contest is now open! Students in Grades 10-12 are invited to submit their artwork by Friday, November 21 for a chance to win. Please visit our website for contest rules.

Another great opportunity is the annual National Youth Remembrance Contests, hosted my Legions across the country. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 are invited to honour Canada’s Veterans and foster the tradition of Remembrance through visual art, writing, or video.

Please check with your local Legion for specific contest deadlines. For more information visit www.remembrancecontests.ca.

Thank you again for your continued patience and understanding during this time. I am looking forward to seeing everyone back at school soon.

Sincerely,

Shawn O’Shea
